The Importance of a Ware House

Monday, November 30th, 2009

For intermediate level players.

You have most likely heard from everyone that you don’t need any ware houses and while that may be true for more advanced players it’s not for you intermediate level players. I’m not about to say you need you need to have five plus ware houses, but only one. This is mainly because maybe for example if you were in an alliance and your alliance went to war with other stronger players you might get attacked. They would also take all your food enabling you to comfort your city. So you need to preserve your food with ware houses. And sometimes the fact of the mater is that it can be simply to late for your alliance to help you in some situations. So that’s where the ware house comes in, but for it to work properly make sure 100% of the storage is at food.

Some of you may be asking about privateering, but not many research it because most do not care to spend the money to research it. So while there are some that have it researched you have a better chance of being attacked by someone with out privateering than someone with privateering. Now if you are on any older server(servers 1-50) that might not be the case. So I would suggest that if you are on one of these servers that you get your ware house and research your stock pile to the highest level you can too.

So once you are no longer an intermediate player you can then destroy the ware house if you wish.

On August 23rd, 2009:

“Evony Community,

Today we experienced a critical downtime of over 3.5 hours with all servers and the main website being unavailable and then some issues with the forums. We understand that this has made many of our great players frustrated and disappointed. We’re disappointed too.

Evony is a small independent online game developer and publisher, a small business which has grown exponentially due to the great community of players we have. Today’s downtime was caused by an error from our hosting partner, The Planet. This has placed us in a very difficult situation in trying to address and fix the errors; however within a few hours we were able to get all servers back online.

As we’re a small company, when problems like this arise, it affects us very deeply. We’d like to take this opportunity though to try and make something good out of it by offering a token of goodwill to all players. We are releasing to all players a Compensation Pack consisting of 10 Amulets and 100 cents, FREE. While we cannot make up for the issue that The Planet has caused, we do hope you accept our apologies and gift and still continue enjoying the game.

Please allow us 3 business days to send out this pack to all accounts. Accounts must have been created before today in order to obtain the pack. You will be able to claim the Compensation Pack in the left hand corner in the game.

Best Regards,

Evony Team”

Thanks Evony, it’s really appreciated!

Importance of Heroes

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

So everybody talks about the importance of range, the importance of your technology levels…but what really is the most important aspect of Evony? The answer is here and now.

Heroes are the most important part of Evony. You’re about to find out why.

Heroes are the foundation of a strong civilization.

1. A hero with high politics level increases your resource production. The higher your politics, the more resources you will obtain per hour. Resources are the supplies you need to build buildings, research technology, and train troops. Undoubtedly, without a lot of resources you’re going to fall behind. +1 Heroes

A hero with high politics level decreases construction time. The higher your politics, the less time it’ll take to finish your buildings. Obviously, the quicker you get things done, the farther you’ll be ahead. +1 Heroes

2. A hero with a high attack level decreases troop training speed. The higher your attack, the faster you’ll finish your troops. As your army is the most important part of your city, this is extremely helpful. Finishing 1,000 archers in 4 hours or 24 hours makes a huge difference. +1 Heroes

A hero with a high attack level boosts your army in battle. The higher your attack, the more powerful each unit of yours is. For example: If I had 10,000 archers and you had 20,000 archers – I could win if I had a very high level hero with attack. +1 Heroes

3. A hero with a high intelligence level decreases research time. The higher your intelligence, the faster you’re complete technology researches. This is very important because when you get to researching level 10’s it starts going over 100, 200, and even 300 hours to complete. +1 Heroes

If you stop and think about it: there are few parts of Evony that are done without the assistance of heroes. You need them to train, build, and research. You need heroes to attack and defend.

Let’s move on to the future of Evony. As we saw in the sneak peek of the Age II beta server, heroes’ roles are going to be increase immensely.

From what we observed, Age 2 will have heroes who can be equipped and upgraded with armor, steeds, and weapons. In addition, we are guessing a few new attributes to heroes are probably going to be added. These include moral & strength. +1 Heroes

So think about it for a while…heroes are the essence of Evony. You need an amazing hero to be #1.

This leads into the final statement: the Holy Helm of Mars gives you a hero with base 80 of one stat or higher. The Holy Helm of Mars is the most valuable item you can get in Evony simply because of that base stat. Anyone with that huge advantage of 10-15 attack points will win. My level 200 hero has 280 attack whilst your level 200 hero has 260. I will nearly always come out on top. +1 Heroes

So…think about it.

Evony Warehouse

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

The warehouse is the most useless building in Evony. What the warehouse does is keep a certain amount of your resources from being plundered after you get attacked. Unfortunately, these numbers of resources are so low that it’s insignificant and you’re better off using the space for another more useful building.

Evony Academy

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Evony Academy

In Evony, the Academy is one of the most essential buildings you can construct. The Academy makes people win battles, obtain resources more quickly, construct other buildings faster, and create military units and fortifications with immense speed.

The following can be researched in the Academy:

Agriculture: “enhances food production”

This is just as important as any of the other military enhancements because armies need food. Without food, your armies will starve.

Lumbering: “enhances lumber production”

Just like agriculture, lumbering is a must. Lumber is required for every single unit you create.

Masonry: “enhances stone production”

The faster you can get stone, the more fortified units you can create. We all need more defense!

Mining: “enhances iron production”

Similar to lumbering, iron is needed for any creation of a military unit. Iron is a necessity.

Metal Casting: “enhances production speed of mechanics”

From personal experience, trust me, you need at least level 9 or 10 of Metal Casting once you have established yourself. Mechanics are powerful units in Evony and you want to build them as fast as you can.

Informatics: “the more detailed information you gain”

Informatics is not a technology that is most useful for offense, but rather a very helpful and strategic defensive research. If you have high informatics, you will know the size and strength of your attackers and can be ready whether it be retreat or stand and win.

Military Science: “enhances training speed”

Although this does not directly relate to victory or loss in battle, generally the lords who can train their troops the quickest will have a larger army. The larger your army is the most dominant you are. This is also a pre-requisite for many other technologies.

Military Tradition: “enhances army’s attack”

Without a doubt, anyone without a high military tradition will lose many battles. The more attack you have, the stronger you are.

Iron Working: “enhances army’s defense”

Again, this is very vital to a strong civilization. Without defense, your troops will get massacred within moments.

Logistics: “enhances army’s load”

You can carry more resources with higher logistics. This is important if you intend on attacking cities that are far away, or want to transport resources to and from your different cities.

Compass: “enhances infantry moving speed”

The higher this is, the faster your troops will move around. Given the fact that the majority of your army will be infantry (archers, warriors, etc) it would be wise to have a high compass level. It could determine victory or loss in battle.

Horseback Riding: “enhances moving speed of cavalry and mechanics”

The higher this is, the faster your troops will move around. Horseback riding helps scouts, cavalry, cataphracts, ballistae, transporters, battering rams, and catapults. I must say, the mechanics units move very slowly, so you might want to research this.

Archery: “enhances shooting range”

This is considered to be the most important technology. If you do not plan on trying to get level 10 archery you are making a huge mistake. Why? For more information on the importance of range, click HERE.

Stockpile: “enhances warehouse capacity”

This is probably the least essential technology in the game. The goal of this research is to help you keep resources if you get plundered. The biggest problem with this is that anyone with privateering will come in and destroy you anyways.

Medicine: “enhances army’s life”

The higher your medicine level, the more “hitpoints” each and every military unit will have. This is important, because if your attack, defense, and range is exactly equal to your opponent’s, then it will come down to whoever has more life.

Construction: “enhances construction speed of buildings and fortified units”

This is one of the most useful technologies in Evony. The faster you can build buildings and defenses, the more powerful you will be.

Engineering: “enhances durability of walls”

The higher your engineering level, the more space you have to build fortified units. Who doesn’t want to build more defenses?

Machinery: “enhances repairable rate of fortified units”

For those of you who do not understand this, it is similar to when an NPC regenerates its traps and archer towers. The higher your machinery level, the more fortifications will regenerate after being defeated. This is highly useful when an enemy destroys your defenses and then gets a surprise when 75% of your defenses spring back up!

Privateering: “Decreases rival’s warehouse down to 3% whilst plundering”

Although you need a level 10 Academy to research privateering, it is extremely useful. If you have a powerful army, you can plunder your enemies who have a warehouse without fear of them keeping the majority of their resources.

Evony Market

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Evony Market

In Evony, the market is a very simple, yet important building. You may construct one by clicking on an open building spot in your Town and clicking on the market. You will need a small amount of resources to build it.

A market is your source for selling surplus resources and buying resources you are in need of (Food, Lumber, Stone, Iron). The currency is gold. You receive gold for selling and spend gold for buying. Often, players will take advantage of high and low prices, and make a profit.

Evony Resources

Monday, June 15th, 2009

This is a very basic guide on Evony resources.

In Evony, the four resources are food, lumber, stone, and iron. These resources are used to construct buildings, research technology, and train troops. Gold is not a resource in Evony, but it is a supply. Gold is required to research technology, comfort your villagers, and is used as a currency to trade the other four resources.

You can get the four resources and gold in several different ways. You may build farms for food, sawmills for lumber, quarries for stone, and ironmines for iron. The higher level you upgrade your resource buildings, the more resources you will obtain per hour. You may also buy and sell resources at the market. You sell your surplus resources for gold, and use that gold for research or to buy a resource you’re more in need of. Finally, you may obtain resources and gold from defeating an opponent in battle. If you win a battle against an NPC or player, you will get resources according to how much they have and how much you can carry.

Leaving the 7 Day Protection

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

There is always the question that people pose: Should I / Am I ready to dive into battle before my 7 day protection is up?

In short, no you should not upgrade your Town Hall past level 4 before your protection time is up.

It’s better to be safe than sorry. I know I would much rather come out dangerous than become a resource farm where my neighbors just mooch off my hard work and steal my resources.

The main reason you should not do this is because all the people who started before you and already let their 7 day protection run, have several days advantage over you. With those few days, they were able to build up an army to wipe you clean. In theory, if you waited the 7 days, you should come out about even and they will not risk trying to fight you.

Moving on, there is one secret situation in which you should upgrade your Town Hall past level 4 before your 7 day protection is up. I’m going to share it with you.

When a server is first released, usually the people who join the server within a few hours have an advantage because they know if they go out of the protection, there is nobody with 250k+ prestige ready to pounce on them. Not only do they have no fear of attack, they get more resource fields because each Town Hall upgrade adds 3 more spaces. Within a day or two, these people have a huge advantage and will be the first one with a large army because of the higher resource production. The chain continues, and they are a powerhouse.

So, the only time I would ever recommend going out of protection before the 7 days expires, is only if you join the server within a day of its being released.

Resource Valleys

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

This is the fourth (and final one) of four detailed guides to maximizing your resource production. Without a doubt, after you have read all four, you will have a much better idea of how to get iron, lumber, stone, and food much more quickly. The first guide on resource buildings and fields can be found HERE. The second guide on the Castellan / Mayor can be found HERE, and the third guide on researching technology can be found HERE.

To start off, I would highly advise that you scout your target before every attack. You never know what may be up their sleeve. Recruit a hero with a high intelligence rating and use this hero for scouting. You will yield better results. You will also need to upgrade your rally point to at least level 2.

When attacking a valley, I would suggest doing so with a large enough army that you outnumber the opponent 3 to 1. This will guarantee you very low casualties.

Try to only conquer valleys that are NOT controlled by another lord. The reason for this is because conquering land that is someone elses’ could lead to a war between you two. This would only cause resource loss on both sides.

Determine what resources you want to add a production bonus to and find level 1 valleys nearby and attack them. After the attack is over you have to tell the army to return, otherwise they will just camp at the valley. You will need as many soldiers as you can as you expand your conquest.

After you have all the level 1 valleys that your town hall can support, upgrade the town hall, now you can attack another 3 valleys (for each Town Hall upgrade). Keep upgrading the town hall until you have a level 4 town hall. Conquer as many level 1 valleys as the town hall at level 4 will support.

Now recruit some more scouts, preferably more than 30. Scout a level 2 valley. Research archers and recruit some archers, depending on what army you will be facing in the level 2 valley you just scouted. To be safe, get at least 50 archers.

Recruit an army so that it is 3 times larger than the army in the level 2 valley.

Abandon one of your level 1 valleys and attack the level 2 valley. Continue doing this for each level 2 valley. Continue doing this as you move up to ultimately, level 10 valleys.

Resource Research Technology

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This is the third of four detailed guides to maximizing your resource production so that your Evony experience is that much more fun. The first guide on resource buildings and fields can be found HERE. The second guide on the Castellan / Mayor can be found HERE.

Technology:

To begin with your resources technology researching, you need an academy. The Routine Quest gives a reward for building and upgrading the Academy, so be sure to collect that. Once the academy is built, research Agriculture, Lumbering, Masonry, and Mining. This will cost gold. You will get some gold from the Routine Quest, for completing the first level of each of these. After that, it will slowly but steadily drain a large amount of your gold.

As each upgrade for Agriculture, Lumbering, Masonry, and Mining describes, you need to have the level resource building in order to research that level resource.

For example: In order to research level 6 Lumbering, I would need to have at least a level 6 sawmill.

The Construction technology is very important as the levels of your buildings increase. You need to research this technology as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the requirements to research this technology are:

Level 2 Forge
Level 2 Workshop
Level 5 Lumbering
Level 2 Metal Casting
Level 5 Academy

The more cities you have, the faster Academy research will occur. This is because the research carries over for to new cities, so you can be researching more than 1 thing in the academy at a time.

The Castellan / Mayor

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

This is the second of four detailed guides to maximizing your resource production so that your Evony experience is that much more enjoyable. The first guide on resource buildings and fields can be found HERE.

Castellan/Mayor:

Firstly, I’d like to address the possible discrepancy between the Castellan and Mayor. The Castellan and the Mayor are the exact same thing. It appears that UMGE has simply not adjusted all the servers to match each other.

When you first begin playing Evony, it is important to get a Castellan, or more recently known as Mayor, with a high politics rating as soon as possible. The Castellan/Mayor affects both resource production and construction time.

The Routine Quest already has a guide to appointing a Castellan. Be sure to follow that guide (Hero Recruitment) and don’t forget to collect your reward.

For those who are still confused with the steps the Routine Quest has in line for you:

1 – Build an Inn.
2 – Build a Feasting Hall.
3 – Upgrade the Inn to at least level 2.
4 – Upgrade the Feasting Hall to at least level 2.
5 – If you have the item “Leather Robinhood”, use it. It offers a level 10-15 hero which increases your chances of obtaining a high Politics hero.

6 – Recruit the hero with the highest Politics rating. Anything with 50+ Politics will suffice.

7 – Go to the Feasting Hall and make the hero with the highest Politics rating the Castellan/Mayor by clicking “Appoint Castellan” or “Appoint Mayor”.

So…why should I choose a Castellan/Mayor with high Politics? Politics is one of the 3 aspects of a Hero. A Castellan/Mayor’s Politics affects how fast you get resources, and how fast you construct buildings. This is very self-explanatory, as this is a guide to maximizing your resource productivity.

Be sure to look for the 3rd and 4th guides to maximizing your resources!

Resource Buildings & Fields

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

This is the first of four detailed guides to maximizing your resource production so that you don’t have to worry about having the necessary materials when you’re going off to battle. The second guide to resource productivity with the Castellan/Mayor can be located by clicking HERE.

Resource Buildings and Fields:

When constructing buildings, time is of the essence. The faster the construction, the faster your resources will roll in. Any building or upgrade whose preset time is equal to, or less than 5 minutes will automatically build. Thus, the Speed Up button provides a free speed up of construction time for lower levels of most buildings. How does this tie into resources? You want to have as many resource producing buildings as possible as high as possible by using free speed up. To make things easy, this is the breakdown for how high you may upgrade your resource buildings until you are required to wait the allotted time:

Sawmills: You can upgrade up to level 3 by using the Speed Up button.

Farms: You can upgrade up to level 4 by using the Speed Up button.

Quarries: You can upgrade up to level 3 by using the Speed Up button.

Iron Mines: You can upgrade up to level 2 by using the Speed Up button.

If you are confused about the Speed Up button, a more elaborate guide on how it works can be found HERE.

Be sure that you have gone to your Town Hall and changed the production rate to 100 on all resource types. Now, go to the resource fields. If you do not know what this is, just click on “City” on the top right (next to Town, and Map). Start with the Sawmill and upgrade to level 3. Proceed to build and upgrade the Quarry, then Iron Mine, and finally the Farm. My advice is to evenly spread out the amount of each. For example: 3 upgraded Sawmills, 3 upgraded Quarries, 3 upgraded Farms, and 3 upgraded Iron Mines. Since these are part of the Routine Quest, be sure to collect your rewards.

Of course, you need villagers to work on the newly constructed resource buildings. In Evony, cottages house workers. You can build a cottage and upgrade up to level 3 using the Speed Up. Unfortunately, when upgrading to levels 4 and up, you’ll have to wait the specified time. Construct enough cottages so that you have a population limit of at least twice as much as the number of workers required to run your resource buildings.

Continue upgrading your cottages and resource buildings. Remember to try to keep the idle population number low. There is no point in constructing resource producing buildings if you don’t have the population to work them, so be sure to get the population first. If you ever find yourself in a high negative population, there are a couple things you can do to immediately fix it. The first is the Comforting feature of “Population Raising” and the second is applying the inventory item “Civil Code”. Population Raising can be applied by going to your Town Hall and selected Comforting. Click Population Raising. Keep in mind that it does cost a decent amount of food.

Everybody needs more resource building slots. But how do you get more spaces to build Sawmills, Farms, Quarries, and Iron Mines? Quite simply, you have to upgrade your Town Hall. Each time you increase your Town Hall level, you gain 3 more fields to add resource buildings. As a friendly reminder, do not upgrade the Town Hall level greater than 4 until the 7 days of protection has expired. If you do, you will probably suffer many disastrous attacks and you will feel very discouraged. Do not upgrade the Town Hall unless you have already filled up all the fields available.

Again, I suggest building an equal number of Farms, Sawmills, Quarries, and Iron Mines on the new resource fields.

Don’t forget to read the next 3 guides to maximizing your resources productivity, or else you’re missing out on some major advantages!

Free Evony Resources

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I’m sure you all have seen somebody in the world chat typing something like this: “cmd:cheat:lumber:1000”. Alternatively, you may have seen somebody say “For 10k of each resource, press ALT-F4”.

Now this is very annoying to people who are legitimately trying to use the world chat. In addition, it is an obscene abuse of the world chat and rude to the new players of Evony. These people who are sending these messages should be reported and permanently banned from ever playing Evony again.

There is no such thing as a Evony cheat. There is no way to type something so that you can automatically obtain the resources lumber, stone, food, or iron. So please do not make a fool out of yourself by typing “cheats” that somebody cleverly told you about.

Straight to the point: do not press ALT-F4 or ALT-W. These will close your browser and leave you very confused. It is simply a sad joke to get “newbies” to become bewildered at why their screen went away.

So next time you see someone trying to “cheat”, or somebody telling another person how to “get free gold”…report them, and make yourself feel a little bit better.
