Evony Resource Cities

Evony players often talk about having “specialized cities”. This means that they have a “farm/food city” or “sawmill/lumber city” or “quarry/stone city” or “ironmine/iron city”. Your guess is probably right – that the particular city only has farms, sawmills, quarries, or ironmines. What is the advantage of that?

Farm & Food Cities:

We believe Farm specialized cities to be the 3rd best type of specific cities. Lumber and Iron cities are more strategic, but Farm cities are more effective than stone cities.

Pro:

– You can support a larger army without having negative food production.

Con:

– If your farms cannot support that large army, then you will have negative food production and no means of getting more food. Since you used up all your resource field slots, you cannot produce other resources to make gold.

Sawmill & Lumber Cities:

We believe Lumber cities to be the 1st best type of specific cities. This means that this is a better city than food, stone, or iron.

Pro:

– Due to the high prices of lumber in the market, you can usually sell 1 lumber for twice the amount of food. Therefore, you can support a twice as large army as that of a Food city. In addition to that, lumber is a necessity for researching technologies, constructing buildings, training troops, and building fortified units. In essence, lumber is the most important resource in the Evony.

Con:

– You have to wait 30 minutes for resources to transport to your city through the market.

Quarry & Stone Cities:

We believe Stone cities to be the 4th best type of specific cities. This means that this is the worst city to have and that food, lumber, and iron are all better options.

Pro:

– You can have a huge amount of stone to build fortifications and construct buildings.

Con:

– Stone is the least valuable resource and therefore is fairly worthless. The average trade rate is 100 stone for 1 food, 500 stone for 1 lumber and iron. The prices speak for themselves.

Ironmine & Iron Cities:

We believe Iron cities to be the 2nd best type of specific cities. It was tough to decide which was more effective – iron or lumber cities. Iron is definitely a good city to have. Why is Iron worse than Lumber? Yes, we are aware that lumber and iron prices are virtually equal, so it boiled down to one thing: Ironmines take longer to build than Sawmills. That is the only reason.

Pro:

– Due to the high prices of iron in the market, you can usually sell 1 iron for twice the amount of food. Therefore, you can support a twice as large army as that of a Food city. In addition to that, iron is a necessity for researching technologies, constructing buildings, training troops, and building fortified units. Iron is equal in prices to that of lumber.

Con:

– You have to wait 30 minutes for resources to transport to your city through the market.

This is a very basic guide on Evony resources.

In Evony, the four resources are food, lumber, stone, and iron. These resources are used to construct buildings, research technology, and train troops. Gold is not a resource in Evony, but it is a supply. Gold is required to research technology, comfort your villagers, and is used as a currency to trade the other four resources.

You can get the four resources and gold in several different ways. You may build farms for food, sawmills for lumber, quarries for stone, and ironmines for iron. The higher level you upgrade your resource buildings, the more resources you will obtain per hour. You may also buy and sell resources at the market. You sell your surplus resources for gold, and use that gold for research or to buy a resource you’re more in need of. Finally, you may obtain resources and gold from defeating an opponent in battle. If you win a battle against an NPC or player, you will get resources according to how much they have and how much you can carry.

Resource Buildings & Fields

This is the first of four detailed guides to maximizing your resource production so that you don’t have to worry about having the necessary materials when you’re going off to battle. The second guide to resource productivity with the Castellan/Mayor can be located by clicking HERE.

Resource Buildings and Fields:

When constructing buildings, time is of the essence. The faster the construction, the faster your resources will roll in. Any building or upgrade whose preset time is equal to, or less than 5 minutes will automatically build. Thus, the Speed Up button provides a free speed up of construction time for lower levels of most buildings. How does this tie into resources? You want to have as many resource producing buildings as possible as high as possible by using free speed up. To make things easy, this is the breakdown for how high you may upgrade your resource buildings until you are required to wait the allotted time:

Sawmills: You can upgrade up to level 3 by using the Speed Up button.

Farms: You can upgrade up to level 4 by using the Speed Up button.

Quarries: You can upgrade up to level 3 by using the Speed Up button.

Iron Mines: You can upgrade up to level 2 by using the Speed Up button.

Be sure that you have gone to your Town Hall and changed the production rate to 100 on all resource types. Now, go to the resource fields. If you do not know what this is, just click on “City” on the top right (next to Town, and Map). Start with the Sawmill and upgrade to level 3. Proceed to build and upgrade the Quarry, then Iron Mine, and finally the Farm. My advice is to evenly spread out the amount of each. For example: 3 upgraded Sawmills, 3 upgraded Quarries, 3 upgraded Farms, and 3 upgraded Iron Mines. Since these are part of the Routine Quest, be sure to collect your rewards.

Of course, you need villagers to work on the newly constructed resource buildings. In Evony, cottages house workers. You can build a cottage and upgrade up to level 3 using the Speed Up. Unfortunately, when upgrading to levels 4 and up, you’ll have to wait the specified time. Construct enough cottages so that you have a population limit of at least twice as much as the number of workers required to run your resource buildings.

Continue upgrading your cottages and resource buildings. Remember to try to keep the idle population number low. There is no point in constructing resource producing buildings if you don’t have the population to work them, so be sure to get the population first. If you ever find yourself in a high negative population, there are a couple things you can do to immediately fix it. The first is the Comforting feature of “Population Raising” and the second is applying the inventory item “Civil Code”. Population Raising can be applied by going to your Town Hall and selected Comforting. Click Population Raising. Keep in mind that it does cost a decent amount of food.

Everybody needs more resource building slots. But how do you get more spaces to build Sawmills, Farms, Quarries, and Iron Mines? Quite simply, you have to upgrade your Town Hall. Each time you increase your Town Hall level, you gain 3 more fields to add resource buildings. As a friendly reminder, do not upgrade the Town Hall level greater than 4 until the 7 days of protection has expired. If you do, you will probably suffer many disastrous attacks and you will feel very discouraged. Do not upgrade the Town Hall unless you have already filled up all the fields available.

Again, I suggest building an equal number of Farms, Sawmills, Quarries, and Iron Mines on the new resource fields.
