Restoring a Crippled/Destroyed City

A Crippled City has 0 Population, 0 Loyalty, and less then 100 Public Grievances

A Destroyed City has 0 Population, 0 Loyalty, and 100 Public Grievances

I will explain how to fully restore both types of cities quickly and with a minimum of help from other players. Of course a little luck with the Amulet is always good. Also, a crippled city may be one that you have just captured and there for has 0 Public Grievances.

What you need:

  • For a crippled city:      Gold
  • For a Destroyed city:  Food
  • Any other resource you can sell

Note:   If you have a Speech Text and don’t mind using it, you can skip this outline and use it to restore both types of cities immediately.

  1. Reduce ALL production rates to 0% to prevent any further Public Grievances from over working you population
  2. Set the tax rate to the percentage you want.
    1. Remember, the higher the tax rate in the city is, the lower its loyalty will be, and the less population you will be able to have in the city.
  3. Check for any wall defenses you can destroy for resources you can sell
  4. Sell any resource you don’t need for the restoration of the city
  5. Crippled City with 20 or fewer public grievances
    1. Apply Comforting – Prayer every 15 minutes
  1. i.      Repeat there are 0 Public Grievances
  2. ii.      May repeat until Loyalty + Tax Rate = 100 or more but this is not generally necessary as the loyalty will begin restoring on its own once the public grievances have been  reduced to less then 100 – Tax Rate
  3. i.      Use newly restored population to restore production rates being careful to not set them higher than you have population for
  4. ii.      I recommend restoring food production first, and then bring the other 3 up as your cities population permits
  5. iii.      Can apply Comforting – Population Raising to bring the population up faster but this will require food
  6. i.      Repeat until there less than 10 public grievances
  7. ii.      If you have insufficient food, you can apply Comforting – Blessing to get food in exchange for gold
  8. i.      Repeat there are 0 Public Grievances
  9. ii.      May repeat until Loyalty + Tax Rate = 100 or more but this is not generally necessary as the loyalty will begin restoring on its own once the public grievances have been  reduced to less then 100 – Tax Rate
  10. i.      Use newly restored population to restore production rates being careful to not set them higher than you have population for
  11. ii.      I recommend restoring food production first, and then bring the other 3 up as your cities population permits
  12. iii.      Can apply Comforting – Population Raising to bring the population up faster but this will require food
  13. i.      Repeat until there are 10 Public Grievances
  14. i.      May repeat until Loyalty + Tax Rate = 100 or more but this is not generally necessary as the loyalty will begin restoring on its own once the public grievances have been  reduced to less then 100 – Tax Rate
  15. i.      Use newly restored population to restore production rates being careful to not set them higher than you have population for
  16. ii.      I recommend restoring food production first, and then bring the other 3 up as your cities population permits
  17. iii.      Can apply Comforting – Population Raising to bring the population up faster but this will require food
    1. As the loyalty restores, so will the population
    1. Estimated time to completion: 1 hour
  1. Crippled City with more than 20 public grievances
    1. Apply Comforting – Disaster Relief every 15 minutes
    1. Apply Comforting – Prayer every 15 minutes
    1. As the loyalty restores, so will the population
    1. Estimated time to completion: 1 hour to 2 hours
  1. Destroyed City
    1. Apply Comforting – Disaster Relief every 15 minutes
    1. Apply Comforting – Prayer 2 times
    1. As the loyalty restores, so will the population
    1. Estimated time to completion: 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours
  1. Check the rally point for any troops that can be healed
  2. Recruit new heroes appointing the one with the best politics to mayor

Your city is now fully restored and ready to resume normal operations.

Evony Town Hall

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Of all the buildings in Evony, you had better know the Town Hall through & through, or you are missing out on a fundamental of the game.

First, I’ll go over the basic “features” that a Town Hall has.

- In the Overview tab of the Town Hall, it lists all your buildings and what level they are.

- In the Production tab of the Town Hall, it lists your Productivity, Max Labor, Required Labor, Production Rate (which you may change at any time), Basic Production, Providence, Technology Plus, Troops Upkeep, Hero Plus, Valleys Plus, Buff Plus & the Total Production for each resource.

- In the Valleys tab of the Town Hall, it lists how many valleys you have, what type they are, and what level.

- In the Cities tab of the Town Hall, it lists how many cities you have, the names you gave each city, your cities’ coordinates, your cities’ mayors, your cities’ population, and the loyalty of your city (determined by tax rate).

- In the Tax Rate button of the Town Hall, you can adjust your tax rate to get different amounts of gold, and different amounts of population. For a guide on earning efficient gold in Evony, please click here.

- In the Comforting button of the Town Hall, you may gain different things: Disaster Relief gains 5 loyalty and decreases Public Grievance by 15, Praying gains 25 loyalty, Blessing gives you food related to your population limit, and Population limit increases the amount of people you have.

- In the Levy button of the Town Hall, you may levy your people to gain more resources for gold, food, lumber, stone, or iron. Keep in mind you lose 20 loyalty if you do this.

- In the City Rename button of the Town Hall, you may quite simply, rename the city to something else that you desire.

Second, I’ll describe the importance of the Town Hall.

- The Town Hall affects how many resource fields you have to build more resource buildings on. At level 1 Town Hall, you have 13 resource fields, and you get an additional 3 fields each time you upgrade your Town Hall. At level 10 Town Hall, you can have a total of 40 resource fields to produce your resources.

- The Town Hall also affects how many valleys you can conquer. The limit to conquering valleys is your Town Hall level. At level 5 Town Hall, you may capture 5 valleys. Obviously, the more valleys you can get, the better your production is.

- The Town Hall is the reason some peoples’ cities look “bigger” than other peoples’ on the World Map. For more information, click here.

- The Town Hall is a pre-requisite for cottages and many quests.

Evony Cottage

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Cottages in Evony are probably the most basic building that you can construct. They have one purpose: to house any people who want to live in your town. The more cottages, and the higher level each cottage is, the more population you can obtain.

For a quick reference:

Level 1 cottages offer 100 population.

Level 2 cottages offer 300 population.

Level 3 cottages offer 600 population.

Level 4 cottages offer 1,000 population.

Level 5 cottages offer 1,500 population.

Level 6 cottages offer 2,100 population.

Level 7 cottages offer 2,800 population.

Level 8 cottages offer 3,600 population.

Level 9 cottages offer 4,500 population.

Level 10 cottages offer 5,500 population.

If I had 2 level 7 cottages, 5 level 4 cottages, and 1 level 9 cottage, I would have a total population limit of 15,100 people.

How come I don’t have a population of 15,100 then?

The reason is because of your tax rate. If my tax rate was 0%, then I would indeed get 15,100 people. If my tax rate was 10%, then I would have 13,590 people (90% of my population limit).

Now population is used for two main things: Workers and Troops for your army.

In any city, you need people to work in your farms, sawmills, quarries, and ironmines. Therefore, with each resource building that you build, you a certain portion of your population goes to work.

The remaining population is used to train, or recruit, troops. If I had 5,000 idle population, I have the ability to create 5,000 men. Of course, since troops such as archers take “2 population” I can only train 2,500 archers.

Yes, your population does replenish after you train troops – it just takes a short period of time.

Earning Evony Gold

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I’m guessing…no I’m positive that every single person has experienced a time, or multiple times, when he/she has needed a lot more gold than they had. Now before I explain the process to obtaining more gold, I must warn you – you need to have excellent food production. If you do not have over 15k (minimum) food production rate, I would not suggest using this method. In addition, you must have over a population of 20k and at least 14 cottages of mid-level.

For when you are at the computer:

As stated above, this is the first part of two steps. This is what you must do when you are monitoring your computer and actively playing Evony.

Go to your Town Hall and set your tax rate to 100(%). Some of you may be saying…what the…why would you do that? That will just lower your loyalty down to 0 and you won’t have any more population. Yes, that is correct. However, there are two very easy ways to increasing loyalty: Disaster Relief and Praying. Unfortunately, Praying costs quite a bit of gold so it’s not worth it. On the reverse side, Disaster Relief (+5 Loyalty) is very convenient and does not cost anything but an ample amount of food. Every 15 minutes, continue to use Disaster Relief. You will soon realize that although your loyalty may go down, it should stay within 90-95 if you are using Disaster Relief every 15 minutes.

Please remember, do NOT keep the tax rate at 100 when you are not able to monitor your computer. Instead, you should set the tax rate to 50(%) when you are sleeping, or not at the computer. Why?

For when you are asleep or not at the computer:

This is the second part of two steps. This is what you must do when you are away from home, sleeping, or not at your computer.

Go to your Town Hall and adjust your tax rate from 100 to 50. Why? Simply because it is the most efficient tax rate that anybody could set it to. I would not state that blindly, so I have mathematical proof to back my claim:

Your Population = {1 – (0.01 x Tax Rate)} x Maximum Population
Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x Your Population

By using substitution, we can conclude that:

Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x {1 – (0.01 x Tax Rate)} x Maximum Population

Now, simplify everything down:

Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x [1 - (0.01 x Tax Rate)] x Maximum Population

Tax Income = (Maximum Population ÷ 100)Tax Rate x (1 – 0.01 Tax Rate)

Tax Income = (Maximum Population ÷ 100) x Tax Rate – (Maximum Population ÷ 10,000) Tax Rate^2 = 50

Now, try plugging any number in for 10,000. The result will always be 50.

Thank you Zenrax for taking the time to do this math.

So, everyone, have fun making over 10k, 15k, 20k, even 35k gold an hour!
