“Evony Community,

Today we experienced a critical downtime of over 3.5 hours with all servers and the main website being unavailable and then some issues with the forums. We understand that this has made many of our great players frustrated and disappointed. We’re disappointed too.

Evony is a small independent online game developer and publisher, a small business which has grown exponentially due to the great community of players we have. Today’s downtime was caused by an error from our hosting partner, The Planet. This has placed us in a very difficult situation in trying to address and fix the errors; however within a few hours we were able to get all servers back online.

As we’re a small company, when problems like this arise, it affects us very deeply. We’d like to take this opportunity though to try and make something good out of it by offering a token of goodwill to all players. We are releasing to all players a Compensation Pack consisting of 10 Amulets and 100 cents, FREE. While we cannot make up for the issue that The Planet has caused, we do hope you accept our apologies and gift and still continue enjoying the game.

Please allow us 3 business days to send out this pack to all accounts. Accounts must have been created before today in order to obtain the pack. You will be able to claim the Compensation Pack in the left hand corner in the game.

Best Regards,

Evony Team”

Thanks Evony, it’s really appreciated!

Evony players often talk about having “specialized cities”. Your guess is probably right – that the particular city only has farms, sawmills, quarries, or ironmines. What is the advantage of that?

We believe Lumber cities to be the 1st best type of specific cities. This means that this is a better city than food, stone, or iron.

Pro:

- Due to the high prices of lumber in the market, you can usually sell 1 lumber for twice the amount of food. Therefore, you can support a twice as large army as that of a Food city. In addition to that, lumber is a necessity for researching technologies, constructing buildings, training troops, and building fortified units. In essence, lumber is the most important resource in the Evony.

Con:

Pro:

Con:

- Stone is the least valuable resource and therefore is fairly worthless. The average trade rate is 100 stone for 1 food, 500 stone for 1 lumber and iron. The prices speak for themselves.

Ironmine & Iron Cities:

We believe Iron cities to be the 2nd best type of specific cities. It was tough to decide which was more effective – iron or lumber cities. Iron is definitely a good city to have. Why is Iron worse than Lumber? Yes, we are aware that lumber and iron prices are virtually equal, so it boiled down to one thing: Ironmines take longer to build than Sawmills. That is the only reason.

Pro:

In Evony, the Inn is used to recruit Heroes which benefits your city immensely. Increasing the level of your Inn allows more Heroes of higher level to be recruited. The quality of available Heroes varies respectful to your Inn level. For example: You may find 5 heroes in a level 5 Inn.

The best way to find an amazing hero is to keep your Inn at level 1. This is because at level 1, the heroes remain at level 7 or below. This means that your chance of finding a level 1 hero with a high level of an individual stat is fairly good. In fact, I can tell you now – I have only once found a good hero in an Inn that was above level 10 and I have found over 50 heroes with base stat of 69 or higher.

There are two main ways to finding a good hero (base 65+ of attack, politics, or intelligence).

1. Demolish your Inn and re-build using the Speed Up button. Continue to demolish and re-construct until you find a satisfactory hero.

2. Recruit the hero from your level 1 Inn regardless of how good it is. Go to your Feasting Hall and dismiss the bad heroes. The list in your Inn should have been refreshed. Continue to recruit and dismiss until you find that amazing hero. The only down side to this is the gold consumption, however, since the heroes are all level 7 and below, gold should not be an issue.

This is a very basic guide on Evony resources.

In Evony, the four resources are food, lumber, stone, and iron. These resources are used to construct buildings, research technology, and train troops. Gold is not a resource in Evony, but it is a supply. Gold is required to research technology, comfort your villagers, and is used as a currency to trade the other four resources.

You can get the four resources and gold in several different ways. You may build farms for food, sawmills for lumber, quarries for stone, and ironmines for iron. The higher level you upgrade your resource buildings, the more resources you will obtain per hour. You may also buy and sell resources at the market. You sell your surplus resources for gold, and use that gold for research or to buy a resource you’re more in need of. Finally, you may obtain resources and gold from defeating an opponent in battle. If you win a battle against an NPC or player, you will get resources according to how much they have and how much you can carry.

“Hey guys, let’s go hack into Evony and get 1 trillion of each resource! In fact, I think I’ll go hack Evony for unlimited gold and an unlimited army!”

Those are the words of an immature, un-intelligent Evony player who thinks he/she can hack Evony for his/her own gain.

First, let’s look at the definition of hack in this case:

Hack – “To use one’s skill in computer programming to gain illegal or unauthorized access to a file or network”

Now, let me explain the complexity of hacking Evony. Since Evony is a browser game, there is no way to actually “hack” into the game unless you obtain the hosting access. In order to gain the hosting access, a person would need to weedle the information out of someone, or attempt to keylog somebody with the information. All of this is completely illegal, and would land a person in jail for a very long time. The hacker would have to proceed to tampering with files on the hosting server, and end up getting caught in the end because it would be very obvious is somebody had unlimited troops upkeep, resources etc. Then as I stated, the hacker would go to jail.

So, in short, hacking Evony is nearly impossible, and would put you in prison for years. It’s not worth it, and there are no Evony “hacks” that you can download off the internet.

* If anyone is offering to give you an Evony hack, it probably contains a virus or keylogger to phish or crack your Evony account. I will go into phishing and account cracking in a later article.

Heroes are the foundation of a strong army, a wealthy city, and powerful scouts. They are required to lead your army into battle. If used effectively, you can gain a lot of prestige and honor. If used in the wrong way, or not used at all, you will be over-run.

To begin, you need an Inn and a Feasting Hall. You can build these by clicking on an open slot in your town.

Inn: This is where you can find and recruit a hero. The number of possible heroes to recruit increases as the level of your Inn does. The higher level Inn, the more options you have.

Feasting Hall: Everybody needs to live somewhere and the heroes are no exception. The Feasting Hall provides a place for the heroes to live. The number of heroes you can own depends on the level of the Feasting Hall. If you have a level 4 Feasting Hall, you can own/have four heroes.

Castellan/Mayor: In the Feasting Hall there is an option called “Appoint Mayor”. This allows you to choose one of your heroes to lead the town. Mayors do not carry over for different cities, so you’ll need to appoint a new one for each city. Mayors cannot lead your troops into battle or help scout out a city. In order to make your resources maximized, read more about it by clicking HERE.

I’m sure you’d like some elaboration on what each attribute of a hero does. A hero has five stats: Politics, Attack, Intelligence, Loyalty, and Salary. The only three that matter when appointing a Mayor are Politics, Attack, and Intelligence.

Politics: When a Mayor is appointed his Politics level decreases building time and makes your resource collection faster.

Attack: When a Mayor is appointed his Attack level lowers the time it takes to train troops. The higher level Attack, the faster your troops will be trained. The Mayor’s Attack level also helps fortify your city when you are under attack.

Intelligence: When a Mayor is appointed his Intelligence lowers the time it takes to research technology. In addition, if you send a hero with a scouting party, it will reveal more information if it has high Intelligence.

Loyalty: Each Hero has his/her own loyalty. The lower the loyalty of a hero, he/she has a higher chance of being captured and persuaded by an enemy upon defeat.

Salary: This is the most self-explanatory of all the stats. A hero loves to get paid, and thus his salary. He is paid every hour. The hero costs 20 gold for every level it has. For example: A level 3 hero would cost 60 gold per hour, and a level 40 hero would cost 800 gold per hour.

Leveling up:

Every time you upgrade your hero, you can add one point to any of the hero’s attributes.

I’m guessing…no I’m positive that every single person has experienced a time, or multiple times, when he/she has needed a lot more gold than they had. Now before I explain the process to obtaining more gold, I must warn you – you need to have excellent food production. If you do not have over 15k (minimum) food production rate, I would not suggest using this method. In addition, you must have over a population of 20k and at least 14 cottages of mid-level.

For when you are at the computer:

As stated above, this is the first part of two steps. This is what you must do when you are monitoring your computer and actively playing Evony.

Go to your Town Hall and set your tax rate to 100(%). Some of you may be saying…what the…why would you do that? That will just lower your loyalty down to 0 and you won’t have any more population. Yes, that is correct. However, there are two very easy ways to increasing loyalty: Disaster Relief and Praying. Unfortunately, Praying costs quite a bit of gold so it’s not worth it. On the reverse side, Disaster Relief (+5 Loyalty) is very convenient and does not cost anything but an ample amount of food. Every 15 minutes, continue to use Disaster Relief. You will soon realize that although your loyalty may go down, it should stay within 90-95 if you are using Disaster Relief every 15 minutes.

Please remember, do NOT keep the tax rate at 100 when you are not able to monitor your computer. Instead, you should set the tax rate to 50(%) when you are sleeping, or not at the computer. Why?

For when you are asleep or not at the computer:

This is the second part of two steps. This is what you must do when you are away from home, sleeping, or not at your computer.

Go to your Town Hall and adjust your tax rate from 100 to 50. Why? Simply because it is the most efficient tax rate that anybody could set it to. I would not state that blindly, so I have mathematical proof to back my claim:

Your Population = {1 – (0.01 x Tax Rate)} x Maximum Population
Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x Your Population

By using substitution, we can conclude that:

Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x {1 – (0.01 x Tax Rate)} x Maximum Population

Now, simplify everything down:

Tax Income = (0.01 x Tax Rate) x [1 - (0.01 x Tax Rate)] x Maximum Population

Tax Income = (Maximum Population ÷ 100)Tax Rate x (1 – 0.01 Tax Rate)

Tax Income = (Maximum Population ÷ 100) x Tax Rate – (Maximum Population ÷ 10,000) Tax Rate^2 = 50

Now, try plugging any number in for 10,000. The result will always be 50.

Thank you Zenrax for taking the time to do this math.

So, everyone, have fun making over 10k, 15k, 20k, even 35k gold an hour!
