In Evony, the workshop is very similar to your Forge – rudimentary at best and has fairly minimal uses. The workshop is necessary for offense and defense mechanics. You also need to upgrade your workshop in order to research the Metal Casting technology. Once you have fully researched your Metal Casting, the workshop ceases to have much of a point. It would be best to demolish the workshop and use that space for something more useful.

In Evony, the Inn is used to recruit Heroes which benefits your city immensely. Increasing the level of your Inn allows more Heroes of higher level to be recruited. The quality of available Heroes varies respectful to your Inn level. For example: You may find 5 heroes in a level 5 Inn.
The best way to find an amazing hero is to keep your Inn at level 1. This is because at level 1, the heroes remain at level 7 or below. This means that your chance of finding a level 1 hero with a high level of an individual stat is fairly good. In fact, I can tell you now – I have only once found a good hero in an Inn that was above level 10 and I have found over 50 heroes with base stat of 69 or higher.
There are two main ways to finding a good hero (base 65+ of attack, politics, or intelligence).
1. Demolish your Inn and re-build using the Speed Up button. Continue to demolish and re-construct until you find a satisfactory hero.
2. Recruit the hero from your level 1 Inn regardless of how good it is. Go to your Feasting Hall and dismiss the bad heroes. The list in your Inn should have been refreshed. Continue to recruit and dismiss until you find that amazing hero. The only down side to this is the gold consumption, however, since the heroes are all level 7 and below, gold should not be an issue.

In Evony, a forge is the workplace of a smith or blacksmith. The main and only point of a Forge is to upgrade your Military Science research which enables you to create troops more quickly. A forge is also the pre-requisite for building your Walls. Hopefully in the future there is a more important role for Forges.

In Evony, the Embassy hosts military units from your other alliance members. You need an Embassy if you want to create or join an alliance (level 1 to join, level 2 to create). An alliance host may increase the maximum capacity by upgrading his/her Embassy. For people who want their alliance’s military support, the level of the Embassy allows that number of armies to be stationed in the embassy’s city regardless of the army’s size. This means that if you have a level 7 Embassy, 7 of your alliance members may assist you with however much army they want.
Sending a bunch of your troops to reinforce an ally’s city will leave them there to fight and defend the city. The owner of the city may not control your army and you may recall your troops at any time. Food will be consumed on the owner’s part as if your army were his/hers.
You have to select the “allow troops of allied members to garrison your current city” option in the embassy to allow your alliance teammates to support you.

What would an army of Cataphracts do? What would happen if I sent 100,000 to attack my enemy?
What would 75,000 battering rams do? I’d love to see my enemy’s face!
So..what would happen if you had an unreal amount of a powerful unit? Would you completely dominate the game?
The simple answer is – no.
The battles in Evony are in a circle of sorts. Different units are very effective against other certain units, fairly powerful against other units, and terrible versus others.
Let’s give an example:
I have 100,000 Cataphracts and you have 100,000 pikemen.
Well, just because Cataphracts are powerful that doesn’t mean I would be victorious. Although pikemen are considered the weaker military unit, they would win this battle. Why? Pikemen have an advantage over all cavalry units because of their longer range (spears/pikes extended). The pikemen spears would annihilate the horsemen in seconds.
Hods Realm will be posting a complete guide to Military Tactics later on. Please keep your eyes perked because this is going to be a huge future release.

The Evony community forums had a very small problem yesterday on August 3rd, 2009. A certain moderator by the name of millaro decided that he didn’t want to be a moderator anymore and would go out with some “fun”. He decided that deleting, moving, and merging a bunch of threads from different forums would be fun. Unfortunately, now the rest of the Evony forum moderators have to sort it out and figure out which way to un-merge, un-move, and un-delete.
Were you wondering why all the stickies were gone from different sections?
Were you wondering where your thread went?
Were you wondering why there are threads with 1,500 or more posts in them?
Your questions were just answered.

- Communication and Misinformation
There are a few forms of communication in this game, all of which are important, when utilized correctly. There are the (currently 4) types of chat, and the two different mail types.
Chat: A live room in which you can talk to other player online. They type of chat lets you know what players you will find there.
Beginners Chat: A free chat that can be used until the player leaves beginners protection. This is useful for asking for help.
World Chat: 0.36$ per text string, you will receive a few free speakers for this, but otherwise can’t chat here. It isn’t worth it anyway. The only two reasons to look here are:
- You’re looking for an alliance or
- You’re looking for alliance members
Alliance Chat: Only alliance chat can be seen here (and whispers). Alliance chat is in blue, and does show in world chat. Less spam.
Private Chat: A clear form of chat in which you can have a private discussion with other players. It is vital you learn how to do this early in the game.
Hint: How to whisper. 2 options:
- Type a backslash (/) then name (/Arumen) (caps don’t matter)
- Or left click there name and a small menu will appear. Select whisper.
The two forms of mail are private mail and mass message. Mass messaging (as of 5/18) is currently broken, but is supposed to, if you have a high enough rank, send a message to all the alliance members you have.
Private mail is a simple single person mail you send when the other player isn’t online. Good for talking to bullies, since you can get out more words.
Misinformation: a way to keep enemies off you is too lie. But, be careful. The enemy may have ways of telling you’re lying.
BAD LIES:
I have experienced a few of these;
“My cousin is at the top man, he can destroy your whole alliance” Killed this player. There is No player good enough to destroy an alliance with 4 million prestige. Sorry.
“My prestige is double yours” Anyone can check this. Many players don’t realize this. Type / and then the liars name. “/liepants” and then say “Hi” or something like that. Then right click the name and select check to see the number of cities and the prestige of the other player. Be careful whispering something insultive though. They may be two times your size. I was actually double his size.
“If you attack me too much, I will report you to Evony” Bullying isn’t reportable. I wouldn’t do it, but you are allowed to. Now, insulting another player, that’s against the rules.
There isn’t a good written lie in this game. The best way to lie is too kill all of the enemies spies and by having a high level informatics tech. If you do, your enemies will get nothing, and not consider attacking you.

13. Prestige/Honor
Prestige and honor can be two confusing things. How do you earn them? What do they do? Well, in the simple form, nothing. But they show everything.
Prestige: Gained by building units and buildings, researching techs and killing NPC’s
Honor: Gained by killing more of the enemy than you lose. Must be another player
Wait… I lost Honor but won the fight… Honor is based on the resources that were transferred in the fight. This most often happens when you attack a city with a small amount of traps. Your men may be more valuable than the traps you took down, therefore resulting in a loss of honor.
WHAT! I just lost 11k honor because some jerk with three times my prestige destroyed my army! This isn’t all that unlikely. Honor isn’t really that important: Though fun to earn, it isn’t really a measure of ability so much as a measure of bullying.
Prestige is required for rank advancement and a quest requires prestige. This makes prestige more important than honor. There is no way to cheat for prestige. Some people say you can by building and rebuilding cottages. This wastes 700 goods and gets 1 prestige. It’s almost as fast to just make warriors. Warriors also generate 1 prestige per make, but it’s not at all cheating. Warriors are a staple to the fighting force. Feel free to build as many as you want, or as few as you want.
This is the player scale for ability:
20k or less prestige: Beginner
21k — 30k prestige: Learner
31k — 40k prestige: Low Player
41k — 50k prestige: Average player
51k — 70k prestige: Advanced player
71k — 100k prestige: Threat Player
101k–200k prestige: Power Player
201k and up prestige: Player Lord
Of course, any of these ranks could be an inactive player, but the further you move up the spectrum, the less likely.
Hint: Judge peoples cities by their prestige, their armies by their honor
How to quickly earn prestige: Be active. There isn’t any way to really speed your prestige. Make sure you are building and researching things in all of your cities. Also, make sure you are always producing troops and wall defenses, and those troops are attacking valleys. Of course, attacking valleys doesn’t result in much prestige, but the rank advancement and medals will help you.
Honor scale: (only applies to 50k prestige and up)
% of honor compared to prestige:
0% honor = hasn’t fought/been fought or lost big
1-9% honor = probably attacked an inactive, or lost honor recently.
10-20% honor = average player
50% honor = fighter
80% honor = champion
100% honor = warlord
150% and up (some over 1000% honor) = war god
But in truth, there are a lot of war gods. Just make sure you don’t get in there way.

So everybody talks about the importance of range, the importance of your technology levels…but what really is the most important aspect of Evony? The answer is here and now.
Heroes are the most important part of Evony. You’re about to find out why.
Heroes are the foundation of a strong civilization.
1. A hero with high politics level increases your resource production. The higher your politics, the more resources you will obtain per hour. Resources are the supplies you need to build buildings, research technology, and train troops. Undoubtedly, without a lot of resources you’re going to fall behind. +1 Heroes
A hero with high politics level decreases construction time. The higher your politics, the less time it’ll take to finish your buildings. Obviously, the quicker you get things done, the farther you’ll be ahead. +1 Heroes
2. A hero with a high attack level decreases troop training speed. The higher your attack, the faster you’ll finish your troops. As your army is the most important part of your city, this is extremely helpful. Finishing 1,000 archers in 4 hours or 24 hours makes a huge difference. +1 Heroes
A hero with a high attack level boosts your army in battle. The higher your attack, the more powerful each unit of yours is. For example: If I had 10,000 archers and you had 20,000 archers – I could win if I had a very high level hero with attack. +1 Heroes
3. A hero with a high intelligence level decreases research time. The higher your intelligence, the faster you’re complete technology researches. This is very important because when you get to researching level 10’s it starts going over 100, 200, and even 300 hours to complete. +1 Heroes
If you stop and think about it: there are few parts of Evony that are done without the assistance of heroes. You need them to train, build, and research. You need heroes to attack and defend.
Let’s move on to the future of Evony. As we saw in the sneak peek of the Age II beta server, heroes’ roles are going to be increase immensely.
From what we observed, Age 2 will have heroes who can be equipped and upgraded with armor, steeds, and weapons. In addition, we are guessing a few new attributes to heroes are probably going to be added. These include moral & strength. +1 Heroes
So think about it for a while…heroes are the essence of Evony. You need an amazing hero to be #1.
This leads into the final statement: the Holy Helm of Mars gives you a hero with base 80 of one stat or higher. The Holy Helm of Mars is the most valuable item you can get in Evony simply because of that base stat. Anyone with that huge advantage of 10-15 attack points will win. My level 200 hero has 280 attack whilst your level 200 hero has 260. I will nearly always come out on top. +1 Heroes
So…think about it.

The warehouse is the most useless building in Evony. What the warehouse does is keep a certain amount of your resources from being plundered after you get attacked. Unfortunately, these numbers of resources are so low that it’s insignificant and you’re better off using the space for another more useful building.

Well, Hods Realm has been around for a few months now and we’ve never actually addressed…What is Evony?
Evony is a completely free MMORTS (massively multiplayer online browser-based strategy game) originally developed by UMGE LLC. Evony LLC now develops Evony – Free Forever.
A player starts with a civilian ranking and a level one town hall with 5,000 each of each resource (gold, food, lumber, stone, iron) and a population of 50 people. Evony has quests to guide new players so they do not get stuck at the beginning of the game. Of course, there are also great Evony guides sites such as Hods Realm to help you.
In the game, when a player logs out, the game continues while they are not around (just like most Real Time Strategy games). For seven days after registering, a player is given protection so they have time to grasp the game’s concepts and begin to achieve its goals.
Prestige is a measure of a player’s rank in the game. It is the game’s way of determining who is the “best”. Players gain prestige by following the Evony quests, building or upgrading structures and successfully attacking valleys or (NPC/Other players) cities.

Racism is always a problem in this world. For Evony, it’s no exception. It’s fairly regular for someone to blurt out a racial slur or insult in the World Chat.
Quite honestly – there’s no need for this kind of behavior. There’s no difference between an African-American President and a French businessman. There’s no difference between a male CEO and a female CEO.
It’s exactly the same all over the world – don’t bring racism to Evony. If you do, you’re only asking for a ban and you lose all respect from your fellow Evony players.

In order to talk to other players in the World Chat, you have to own items called “speakers”. So what happens when you run out of speakers? Well, you cannot talk in the World Chat. You can still talk in your Alliance Chat and whisper other players for free.
Of course, you can always get more speakers. There are several ways to go about obtaining them.
- You can purchase speakers for real life money.
- You can win speakers off the Amulet Wheel.
- You can obtain speakers by winning them as a battle reward.
For a couple months now, there have been complaints about having to “pay” to talk in the World Chat. Let’s think about this logically. If anyone could talk unlimited times for free, then the World Chat would constantly be spammed and no doubt advertisements. It would turn into an unidentifiable jumble of spam where nobody could communicate with each other. The point of the World Chat would be defeated.
Let me add that you don’t need to buy speakers. You can easily win them off the wheel or in battle. In addition, I’m sure that you’ll want to talk to your alliance members and your friends a lot more than some random person on the World Chat.
So stop being negative – think about it sensibly and positively.
